Flickr Pro Account for Free...

for 3 months.

During the holiday season of 2012, Flickr offers a free 3 months Pro account. If you should already have a pro account, you get an additional 3 months for free. During these three months you get all the perks a regular Pro accounts has. Meaning unlimited uploads, statistics etc..

Ever since I switched from Flickr to SmugMug last year I let my Flickr Pro account expire, and it reverted to the limited free account. Yesterday I reinstated my Pro status again (for the 3 months). I don't think that I'll be going back to Flickr Pro. When the 3 month offer expires I'll default to the free account. SmugMug offers me much more. Things like dynamic photo albums (bases on keywords / tags), custom domain, layout, etc.. These are all features that Flickr lacks, and that I grew accustomed to.

So why upload a bunch of photos just for these three months? All for the cause of some extra free exposure I guess.

Free Lonely Planet City Guides for iPhone

Not being able to fly has its advantages. In response to the widespread chaos caused by the eruption of Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull volcano (pronounced as 'whatever'), Lonely Planet is offering 13 of its European iPhone guides for free (as in 'free beer').

As of today, I'm the (proud) owner of an iPhone 3Gs 32GB (Black). Ever since the release a couple of years ago I really wanted an iPhone. The problem is that we can only get an iPhone in combination with a T-Mobile plan here in Holland, and alternatives to the T-Mobile plan are relatively expensive;

You need to cough up the entire amount for a SIMLOCK free iPhone in once (several hundreds of euros) or
Get the T-Mobile plan and let them remove the SIMLOCK (for a fee). Initially less expensive, but you're still hooked to their two year plan.

Either way, an iPhone cost around 800 euros, whether you pay it at once or spread the costs over two years. Since I didn't like to finance T-Mobile for a plan, since I already got a pretty good deal, I went out and bought an iPhone.
