Flickr Pro Account for Free...

for 3 months.

During the holiday season of 2012, Flickr offers a free 3 months Pro account. If you should already have a pro account, you get an additional 3 months for free. During these three months you get all the perks a regular Pro accounts has. Meaning unlimited uploads, statistics etc..

Ever since I switched from Flickr to SmugMug last year I let my Flickr Pro account expire, and it reverted to the limited free account. Yesterday I reinstated my Pro status again (for the 3 months). I don't think that I'll be going back to Flickr Pro. When the 3 month offer expires I'll default to the free account. SmugMug offers me much more. Things like dynamic photo albums (bases on keywords / tags), custom domain, layout, etc.. These are all features that Flickr lacks, and that I grew accustomed to.

So why upload a bunch of photos just for these three months? All for the cause of some extra free exposure I guess.

Moving from Flickr to SmugMug

Over the last couple of years, I've been storing my photos online @ Flickr. But I fear that time has come to move forward. Forward to another service for the next couple of years. The main reason for moving is that Flickr doesn't seem to innovate. No innovation basically means going backwards, in these days.

Flickr is a WYSIWYG environment. What you see is what you get, and not in the way this term is usually used on the Interwebs. There's no way of changing the coloring or appearance (white only). No way of integrating into another website (e.g. changing the URL).

Scotland Holiday 2009

Two and a half weeks driving around in Scotland. The weather was extremely good, which we didn't anticipate, so we didn't have enough t-shirts etc. Who would have thought that over two weeks of sunshine was possible in Scotland?

Saw lots of ruins, castles, sheep, churches, sun, beer, whisky, ruins, castles and stuff. No need to get bored when you're over there. Only downside to the extremely good weather was that I wasn't able to shoot many of those typical cloudy/rainy Scotland photo's.

The trip started with the ferry IJmuiden-New Castle. After that it was Dumfries, Oban, Spean Bridge, Struan (Isle of Sky), Ullapool, Thurso, Ballater, Glenrothes, and back to New Castle. Basically a trip covering the best parts of Scotland (we did miss the Orkneys though).
